Earlier this year I had the opportunity to take a course called "Flying Lessons" given by a very talented artist - Kelly Rae Roberts. It was an excellent course that covered such topics as letting go of yours fears, going after your true passion, and many other things. One of the best things about the course was, I got meet and learn about a lot of talented artists, all in on different paths, but all working towards making their dreams come true and learning to take flight. Flygirl Fridays is all about these wonderfully talented people and a little bit about them, so you can get to know them as well!
Please introduce yourself, who are you and what do you do?
My name is Violet Kelly of Kelly Mae Kreations. I enjoy creating and designing all sorts of things, but right now the main mediums that I concentrate in are jewelry creation/design and sewing quilts and tote bags. I currently sell my jewelry on Etsy.

What is something that you really love, and why?
Besides my family and the colors purple and green, I am a very visual person and love colors, textures, organic things in everything and I incorporate them in my designs wherever I can. I love making things and taking ideas from concept in my head or from an image and producing something you can touch and feel.

What would your dream project be?
I have so many ideas and projects that I would love to bring to fruition, but one dream project would be to design studio connected to my home or on the property with large windows and cozy sitting area with a fireplace, tons of natural lighting and at the other end of the room a large work area with an island and cabinets with the room. It has been coming to mind slowly piece by piece and someday I will be sitting in it, working on my creations.

What’s the best piece of advice that you’ve ever received?
Some advice that has really stuck with me are: 1. Everyone is unique and that’s what makes the world go round. Be true to who you are and people will want to get to know the “real you”, don’t try to be like someone else. 2. Always listen to your intuition or that little voice deep inside, it truly knows what you need. 3. This one stems from worrying about competition in your endeavors whatever they may be – Some people like vanilla and some people like chocolate. So, there are people who are going to fall in love with you and your creations or what you do.

Where does you inspiration come from?
A lot of my inspiration comes from nature, and natural textures, neutral colors, and organic shapes. I tend to gravitate towards leaves and flowers and get so many ideas from them.

What do you think is the biggest thing holding you back?
Probably the biggest thing would be, maintaining the confidence that I can achieve the dreams that are way deep down, and continuing to work towards that no matter what, when those little voices and doubts start creeping in. And also, figuring out that road map to get me from point A to B. Sometimes I feel like I’m driving to California without a map and I know you really need one, to get there!

What change do you think would most help your business grow?
I think setting clear cut goals, big and small, planning my time wisely and consistently, and also working with a knowledgeable mentor or mentors would help me greatly.

What’s the biggest thing that you took with you from Flying Lessons?
Learning to let go of the fears and doubts that come cropping in your mind telling you can’t do it. And the wonderful group of artists that also took Flying Lessons with me. It’s great to read about their accomplishments, setbacks, goals, etc, and being able to learn more about them, learn from their experience, be able to bounce ideas off of them, ask them questions, get feedback, making the terrific connections and knowing that there are people out there on their individual journeys, but they are trying to achieve the dreams of their hearts as well and to know that they really GET you, because essentially, they are in the same boat, as you. And as I am writing this, an “idea” just came to me for something new to create J.
